MP3Gain is cross-platform open source software created to analyze MP3 files and to adjust them to so desired perceived volume. It functions similarly to what an audio normalizer does, but unlike typical normalization MP3Gain does not modify the music data. The program calculates a volume adjustment to yield lossless audio volume increase as it adjusts the mp3 file directly, without decoding and re-encoding.MP3Gain is not designed to simply look at the peak volume and adjust the file accordingly. Instead, it does statistical analysis to determine how loud a file actually sounds to the human ear. It does this by changing the scale factor for each MP3 frame.
