People Who Make It Happen

What do Michael Oher, Shania Twain, and Steve Jobs have in common? It’s definitely not just the fame and money. Beneath the façade of renown in the world of sports, the iconic country-to-pop-music crossover, and the distinction of having revolutionized consumer electronics and computing is an inspiring struggle and success story worth pondering over. They have become famous not only because they achieved success. People look up to them because of how they made success.

Michael Oher

The name “Michael Oher” reached and touched hearts through the book The Blind Side: Evolution of a Game and the award-winning movie, The Blind Side. Michael Oher may have not achieved a feat comparable to those of Michael Phelps’s or Michael Jordan’s but his story proves to be equally inspiring.

Born May 28, 1986, Michael Jerome Oher was one of twelve children to an alcoholic and drug addict mother. Michael’s childhood was spent with little to no attention and parental care. He had to be homeless and to move from one foster home to another at a very young age. Help, nevertheless, came when it was critically needed through a kind family who adopted Michael and treated him as their own son. Fortunately, the neglected Michael was not one to refuse help. Despite his bitter past, he was ready to embrace a new life among welcoming strangers who guided him to become successful. Currently a professional football player, Michael Oher now lives the good life. Signing a multimillion contract to play for the Baltimore Ravens and getting voted second for the Associated Press’ NFL Offensive Rookie of Year Award seem to be mere bonuses.

Shania Twain

The gorgeous musician who found eyebrow-raising success at Nashville and later smashed records in the mainstream pop music industry doesn’t look like one who has been through a lot of hardships. After all, she is the woman with the ideal face based on a study conducted by a team of US and Canadian researchers. The pretty face pretty much conceals everything negative. Her attractive figure belies the fact that she had been through some of the worst beatings in life. Her life exemplifies resilience.

Shania Twain was born to a poor family. She had to live a rough life in her youth despite being a girl with a relatively small frame. Food was scarce in her family’s household so she had to learn how to hunt and chop wood during her younger years. It didn’t help that she also had to witness her parents violently fight often and eventually file for divorce. Shania’s mother died while she was still young and she took the responsibility of caring for her younger siblings. If it’s any consolation, she had a good start in the music industry by singing in bars for a living where she would eventually be discovered.

Steve Jobs

Steve Jobs may not be just a face for Macbooks, iPads, and iPhones. He may also be the poster boy for an unrelenting determination to succeed. Yes, he made billions but it’s no secret that he was once kicked out of the very company he himself created. He experienced multiple failures in his career. He didn’t finish college. He was abandoned by his biological parents but that didn’t send him to depression or self pitying. Instead, he persevered. He learned how to have a vision. Braving the odds, he did everything doable to make his visions into realities. Thanks to the relentless Steve Jobs, America is left with a successful company that weathers the inclement economic climate to still generate the very much needed…jobs.

"I admire Corona. He does not go down to the level of the president’s ranting."

Super boobs‽

The boom-badoom-boom-bass singer, Nicki Minaj, becomes the subject of the most recent "wardrobe malfunction" caught on camera. Interestingly, it's not interesting. But still we're blogging about it.

Fake boobies and booties, anyone?

And did we say "recently?" There certainly were a handful of them in recent years. Let's look back at the wardrobe malfunction stars of the past...

Kelly Rowland

Katy Perry... You're hot and you're cold, that nip's in and now it's out , it's wrong but it feels right

Tila Tequila

Amy Winehouse.
Unfortunately, death ain't an excuse not to remember how much of a crack head you used to be.

It's not limited to nip slips, Carrie.Suggestive weeny protrusions, especially one coming from an innocent looking girl, are just beyond PG-13.

Miley Cyrus. A Party in the USA side effect, maybe?

We know it's scripted, Janet.
Well acted and perfectly color coordinated though.

'D-op-ed: Pinoys are different...indeed

Korina Sanchez now says Binay’s name but still slams him

Only in the Philippines will you read a news story about a news reader who "finally mentions the name" of a personality she apparently disdains. I don't really mind this woman's ignorance about firecracker toxicity. It's just ridiculous how she still keeps her job as a "journalist" despite the overwhelmingly obvious bias/partiality her voice and face audaciously present on Philippine primetime TV..

Azkals’ non-Filipino surnames surprise Kuwait football official

Apparently, the Kuwaitis don't have any clue about the Philippine sports scene. Somebody should start sending them copies of the coverage of our national basketball league games. They're surprised with the surnames; what would their reaction be when they actually see those players? They definitely don't look like the maids and construction workers they're used to seeing around their turf. Anyway, what does a Filipino surname read like for these Kuwaitis?

ABS-CBNNews: Woman in Azkals 'scandal' not a UP Physics grad

That's really news material huh, ABS-CBN? Tsk. Tsk.

Better quit it lady. Things just look like a case of someone owned and another disowned. You're apparently on the losing side. Filipino love for the "national" team is still near its peak.

PNoy catches woman in Palace

Well well.
First time the old bachelor showed kindness to a woman over 40 who is not a member of his KKK circle.

Manny Pacquiao now game show host

He's into acting, singing, TV show hosting, product endorsing, politics...and now, running a game show. I won't be so surprised to see him doing a newscast one day but we have to admit it, he sucks in almost everything else he does outside the ring.

☻☻☻
YouTube singing sensation Charice tweets:
"@crstinaponce ano ga yan.. bakit naman ako magiging member? porket kanta ko po'y Pyramid, member na? hehehe. pero ayon.. hindi po,"
Kudos to the accusers (who are certainly and unsurprisingly Filipinos themselves) for the free PR for the Illuminati.

What could be more embarrassing?

What could be more embarrassing than getting involved in a national scandal?

This face?

South Sudan is now UN's 193rd member

How many countries are there in the world?

The United Nations (before this news) lists 192 members and often, that is considered the number of countries around the world. The US Department of State on the other hand, reflective of their political agenda, counts 195 independent countries.

Now, here's something to add to the continuing confusion in one of the the most common questions in geography. South Sudan is finally admitted into the United Nations as the 193rd member. The newly independent state with Juba as its capital was officially welcomed and acknowledged into the international community after UN General Assembly President Joseph Deiss banged a gavel that signaled South Sudan's UN membership approval by acclamation.

South Sudan has a population of approximately eight million people. It is expected to have control of more than 75% of Sudan's daily oil production though it remains as one of the poorest and least developed areas in the world. South Sudan has no refineries to process and market their oil so they would have to rely on the north's pipelines, at least temporarily.

So for the question: "how many countries are there all in all?" It is safe to peg the number at 196. To make it more specific, the answer is 195 by US Department of State count, 193 by UN membership, and 196 with Taiwan recognized as a territory separate from China—which most Asian nations do.

Study: Tea and coffee drinkers less prone to MSRA infection

A recent government study involving 5,500 Americans finds an additional benefit in drinking hot coffee or tea: warding off methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus or MRSA.

The study was published in the Annals of Family Medicine and accordingly, the popular caffeinated beverages make drinkers less likely to have methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus or MRSA in their nostrils. Hot tea and coffee have antimicrobial properties that play a big role here, offering the protection that non-drinkers don't have as they are found to be about twice more likely to be carrying MRSA in their noses.

Approximately 2.5 million people are nasal carriers of MRSA and in general about one percent of the United States population carry the microorganism in their nose or skin. Not all carriers suffer from MRSA caused sicknesses though.

Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus or MRSA is a bacterium identified to be responsible for various difficult-to-treat infections in humans. It is also known as multidrug-resistant Staphylococcus aureus or oxacillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (ORSA). Technically, MRSA refers to an strain of Staphylococcus aureus that has developed resistance to beta-lactam antibiotics such as penicillin and the cephalosporins.

TWITTER is...

Was playing with words and letters today.

Just realized that TWITTER, interpreted as a rebus, means CONTENT WRITING without CONNING

“Galit ang DENR sa nangyari na ‘yon. Puro plastic!”

Noli de Castro

Words uttered by the former Vice President and returning broadcaster in his program TV Patrol as a side comment on the report on Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago and husband's renewal of vows and ruby anniversary.

The event drew in a multitude of politicians (allies and adversaries), businessmen, and personalities. Former president GMA was there. Erap was there. The notorious octogenarian Imelda Marcos was present at the event. Even de Castro's TV Patrol co-anchor, Korina Sanchez, was there with husband Mar Roxas.

"No air-con, no session"

That's the gist of what the "honorable" Niel Tupas said in an interview on the afternoon DZMM program Pasada 630 with Karen Davila and Vic de Leon Lima. He stupidly admitted that they had to cancel a scheduled session because the plenary's air-conditioning units broke down. Davila mockingly retorted with a "Ganun? Kung walang air-con 'di kayo magtatrabaho?"

Two things:
1. At least he's honest (or stupid) enough to admit it.
2. Now we learn of something more annoying than his voice/accent.

"They were taking their (own) sweet little time."

Says Erwin Tulfo, repeating the statement at least three times, referring to the police reaction when he relayed hostage taker Mendoza's threat to kill the hostages if his (Mendoza's) brother weren't released by the police

China or America?

I'd rather see the West's America maintaining its global dominance than Asia's China rising to the top. Better be ruled by capitalists, at least they follow rules. The communist Chinese? They have a habit of making the rules.

Beach

Animals that don't look like their true selves

Is mankind sure it was a real serpent Adam and Eve saw when they were tempted have a bite of the forbidden fruit?
The picture above definitely shows NOT a snake.
It\'s actually a caterpillar!

Master mimicker, the mimic octopus.

Spiders that look like ants.

Caterpillars disguising as snakes.

And more...

Crazy Jumping Caterpillars

Several species of spiders do paragliding with their webbings. Termites have been building amazing air-conditioning systems. There's that sense of awe in witnessing beavers building dams. Now, take a look at the Mexican jumping beans - the caterpillars with crazy and amusing skills.

Not beans really, they're tiny insects, specifically moths/caterpillars also known as Cydia deshaisiana. These creatures are capable of finding and securing an abode for their children (responsible parents eh?). They lay their eggs exclusively in the pods/seeds of Sebastiana shrubs, providing a solid home for the would-be caterpillars. Like humans though, not all insects are engineers capable of installing their cribs with proper air conditioners. The Cydia deshaisiana moths are not an exception. They forget their children need not just protection but comfort as well. The innocent but instinctive caterpillars born within the pods are cute little monsters that know how to throw tantrums—or looking it another way— that know how to play. When it gets hot within their birth-pods, these caterpillars leap around crazily, mobilizing their pods until it lands somewhere cold. Tantrum? Play? Be the judge. Watch the video below.

Bolerong former Congressman Teddy Boy Locsin (one of the hosts of DWIZ's Karambola) to pestiferous lawer Harry Roque:

Here's Roque's website/blog: http://harryroque.com/
Very "nice" indeed.

Well, at least Locsin was honest enough he doesn't appreciate the CONTENT.
